Four Color No. 226 - 1949

To my shame I am not very familiar with the work of Roger Armstrong, the artist responsible for the fluid, richly-detailed work in this story. Artist ID comes from pal Alberto Becattini via Grand Comics Database. For more about this great artist, please read Mark Evanier's tribute at the time of Armstrong's passing in 2007. As for the beautiful cover, (most likely) it's the work of Ralph Heimdahl.

George Carlson From Jingle Jangle - 1945

I love George Carlson's gorgeous layouts and drawing, but I love his storytelling best off all. Like any great cartoonist, art and text seem perfectly complimented in his work. Carlson created worlds of tremendous depth - somehow logical and surreal at the same time. Also included is a nifty cover by Dave Tendlar. This is from Jingle Jangle Comics, October 1945.

Hamilton Greene - "Golden" Horses

My last post highlighting the western work of Everett Raymond Kinstler really got me in the mood for more horsey artwork. Here is a Little Golden Book from 1962 featuring paintings by Hamilton Greene. Wow, is this some pretty stuff. Not to be overlooked is the wonderful children's writing of Blanche Chenery Perrin.
