Jingle Jangle No. 29 - George Carlson!

Here's some cool stuff from Jingle Jangle Comics No. 29, October 1947. First comes a nifty cover done by Larz Bourne:

This first story is by the great George Carlson, most famous for his "The Pie-Face Prince of Old Pretzleburg" stories done for Jingle Jangle Comics. I love a lot about Carlson's work, but mostly I admire his page layouts.

This Hortense story is signed by one "Wilmer Muddleshtunk" who is actually the art/writing team of Allen Ulmer (art) and Ray Wilner (writer). I couldn't find out too much about Ulmer other than he drew several newspaper strips, including "The Shadow", The Green Hornet, The Saint, and Tarzan - all in the 40s and 50s.

  1. I love seeing more information about the Jingle Jangles. The Carlson work is beyond belief, but I like a lot of the other stories too.
