Movietown's Animal Antics No. 40, 1952

Today we have three stories from one of DC's undervalued funny animal comics, Movietown's Animal Antics. These stories come from No. 40, September-October 1952. The Raccoon Kids (first and third story) is the work of Otto Feuer, who is unfairly nearly forgotten today (make that terribly unfairly). The middle story featuring Doodles Duck is by Sheldon Mayer, who is better remembered today than his fellow DC funny animal artists.

The last two pages of this post are a couple of nifty ads from the same issue. I love that in-house promotional ad with the man of steel helping to sell DC's funny animal line!

  1. Another gem of a post, Mykal! Who is this Otto Feuer (sp?) guy?! I have to guess he worked for Famous Studios or Terrytoons, since the style is so similar.

Love the ad. Like Superman, some of MY best friends are squirrels, too!

  3. The DC humor books always struck me as fairly mediocre. Not that they supported bad art or writing. But it was mostly uninspired. Even Fox & Crow, drawn by the great Jim Davis, was second tier humor comics.
I can enjoy them, but don't jump up and down over them.

  4. Gary: I have always felt they rated jumping up and down, at least a little!

  5. LOVE the animator quality of this one. The subtle gradation of colors on the cover. And that ad for the Car Repair Manual ? We got that Manual on a shelf !

  6. Lysdexicuss: Feuer was an animator, all right. And I'll bet that's a whale of a good manual!!
