Pete Alvarado played in the bigs and, in the animation and cartooning league, he batted well above .300 season after season throughout his long and legendary career.As an animator, Mr. Alvarado worked for Disney (where he recieved two Academy Awards for Best Short Subject), MGM, UPA, DePatie-Freleng, Hanna-Barbera; and many other studios. In concert with his animation work, he began doing comics for Western Publishing in the late 1940s drawing characters from Disney, Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera, and Walter Lantz studios. ReplyDeleteI never bought too many Flintstones comics from Dell or Gold Key. Don't know why. I loved the shows on TV. Probably because I was spending increasingly more money on super-hero stuff. Nice issue.

Darrin, Gary, and Steve: All three of you love the Flintstones TV show. That makes all four of us!! The Flintstones was my favorite show when I was a kid. The Ann Margrock story was based on one of my favorite episodes.

ReplyDeleteThe central story on this issue from The Flintstones (drawn by Pete Alvarado), was mirrored on the episode from the 4th season (1963-64) of the series, Ann-Margrock Presents, which brings a special appearance of Ann-Margret (on the animated format).
