HOWIE POST: Hot Stuff and Spooky!

Howie Post passed away May 21st. His work is so cool and funny; so confident, loose, and perfectly free. If I am feeling unhappy, a Howie Post story will always guide me toward sunshine. For that, you gotta love a guy and remember him always. The following Hot Stuff and Spooky stories shine with a pure joy and style that was uniquely Post.

The Weird Laughing Mystery is from Hot Stuff, The Little Devil No. 85, August 1968.

Spooky Mets Horatio and The Scary Secret are both from Spooky No. 46, August 1960.

  2. Jeff: I know! In fact, I was browsing my Harvey collection when I heard the news! I have much more Harvey in the hopper.

You know, I really wish I had written a fan letter to Mr. Post before his passing.

  3. So... what's with devils wearing diapers? I mean, yeah, Hot Stuff is little, I get that (Although he's sophisticated enough that I would assume he's potty trained) but I've seen his uncles, neighbors, etc wearing them too. Is everyone in Hell incontinent? I mean, it IS Hell, so I guess that adds up.

  7. I first learned his name on Anthro. It was a really good book.

  8. What is good about these stories is that there is something happening -- movement -- in every panel. Howie Post was a terrific cartoonist. Loved his Anthro book for DC.

  9. Gary: that high degree of panel movement is sooo Post! I have Anthro No. 1 and will post sooner or later (it is so great!)- for the post "tribute", I wanted to go Harvey, as those were the comics that made me love his work.

hey, did you check out previous post! It mentions Orlando!

  10. I love Spooky's dog, but at the same time I feel sad since he's a ghost too. I wonder how this dog died?
